Are you a visual storyteller passionate about creating impactful work? Do you have a groundbreaking project idea that uses visuals to captivate audiences and drive social change? If so, you’re invited to apply for the CatchLight Visual Storytelling Fellowship.


Eligibility

The CatchLight Visual Storytelling Fellowship welcomes applications from visual storytellers worldwide. There is no entry fee to apply.


Application Requirements

Applicants must provide the following materials:

  • Fellowship Statement: A 200-word description explaining how your work engages audiences and creates long-term impact.
  • Proposed Project Description: A 250-word overview of your idea.
  • Distribution, Engagement, and Impact Plan: A 250-word plan outlining how your project will reach and influence its intended audience.
  • Impact Feedback Plan: A 100-word strategy for gathering feedback on the project’s impact.
  • Timeline: A detailed schedule for your project.
  • Budget Estimate: An itemized breakdown of your project’s costs.
  • Learning Topics: Three ideas for sharing insights with the CatchLight community.
  • Portfolio: 10-20 images showcasing your work.
  • References: Contact information for three professional references.
  • Bio: A brief personal biography.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV): Your professional résumé.

Benefits of the Fellowship

As a CatchLight Fellow, you will receive:

  • A $30,000 award to support your project.
  • Potential access to additional funding via the CatchLight Impact Fund.
  • Paid travel and accommodations to attend the 2025 CatchLight Visual Storytelling Summit in San Francisco.
  • Personal development opportunities, including executive coaching.
  • Impact strategy and networking support provided by CatchLight staff and partners.
  • Membership in a community of Fellows and industry professionals.

Evaluation Criteria

The CatchLight team evaluates proposals based on their innovation and potential to address one or more of the following outcomes:

  • Innovative Distribution: Exploring new ways to distribute visual stories to effectively engage specific audiences.
  • Community Activations: Using visual storytelling to address community needs or engage targeted audiences.
  • Field Sustainability: Developing systems and models that advance the visual storytelling field or broader media ecosystem.
