TikTok Ad Revenue: Your Guide

TikTok Ad Revenue: Your Guide

Let’s cut to the chase: earning TikTok ad revenue isn’t possible.

At least not in the way it is on platforms like YouTube

For those creating content on the internet, ad revenue has historically been the key to monetization. It’s still a great way to earn money, but on Gen Z’s favorite app, there are better ways to get your bag.

So what is TikTok ad revenue? How is the platform changing the game? And what can creators and businesses do to get that bread?

Keep reading and I’ll tell you.

How Can You Earn Ad Revenue on TikTok?

There are ways to earn ad revenue on TikTok, but it won’t be directly through the app. At least not currently.

TikTok has the Creator Fund (soon to be called The Creativity Program), which pays certain creators for consistent, high-quality content based on a few specific metrics.

Those metrics:

  • View count
  • View quality
  • Engagement level

And the creators who are eligible:

  • Live in the US, UK, or select countries across Europe
  • Legal adults
  • Have a minimum of 10,000 followers
  • Get a minimum of 100,000 authentic video views every month
  • Comply with TikTok’s Community Guidelines

Honestly, the Creator Fund is notorious in the TikTok community for being laughably bad. Many who apply aren’t accepted. And those who are report earnings so small, they are hardly worth mentioning. It’s no wonder they’re currently undergoing a rebrand.

Just watch any TikTok-er’s What I Make as a [insert job title here] video and you’ll see what I mean. Most roll their eyes when they mention the Creator Fund. Some don’t bother mentioning it at all.

It’s a shame since posting consistent, high-quality content on TikTok is a lot of work. But luckily, there are other ways to make that sweet, sweet ad revenue money.

Earn TikTok Ad Revenue With Brand Deals

One of the best ways for creators to make money on social media is with brand partnerships.

New trends on TikTok come and go, and the nature of the influencer is constantly in flux, but the core principles remain the same: social proof is marketing magic.

So if you want to earn ad revenue on TikTok, consider reaching out to some brands you know your audience will love. You can pitch a campaign collaboration or create some user-generated content (UGC) for the marketing team.

Affiliate Marketing Revenue on TikTok

Most brands have affiliate programs. They aren’t always the most lucrative path for established creators, so if you have a diverse portfolio of successful brand partnerships, this option shouldn’t be your primary focus.

Affiliate links are still a great strategy for beginner creators, and it’s smart to include them in your evergreen content as a passive income stream.

TikTok is becoming increasingly focused on longer-form, searchable content, so after a while, the small amounts you earn from each video could add up to something bigger.

How Much Ad Revenue Does TikTok Earn?

Although creators can’t earn direct ad revenue on TikTok, that doesn’t mean the platform isn’t getting theirs.

In fact, the platform is estimated to have earned a whopping $6.19 billion in ad revenue by the end of 2023.

Should they share some of that with the creators that keep people on their app? That’s not for me to say…

But I’ll say it anyways. Yes. Yes, they should.
